Position Summary
We’re seeking a strong, forward-thinking Senior HR Compliance Manager to lead workplace investigations, elevate our wage & hour compliance, and strengthen the policies that support a fair and consistent employee experience. This role is heavily focused on employment law, especially Wage & Hour compliance, and requires someone who is proactive, confident, and able to anticipate risk before it becomes an issue.
You’ll partner with Legal, HRBPs, and leaders to ensure our processes are compliant, defensible, and built for scale across a multi-state, fast-growing organization.
Key Responsibilities
Investigations & Employee Relations
- Lead complex and sensitive workplace investigations from intake through findings.
- Conduct interviews, credibility assessments, documentation reviews, and provide recommendations.
- Partner with Legal on cases with potential litigation exposure, including support on holds, preservation of documents, compiling facts, timelines, and providing case summaries.
- Coach leaders and HRBPs on employee relations, performance issues, conflict resolution, and corrective action.
- Track trends and recommend proactive solutions to reduce ER risk.
Wage & Hour Compliance (California Required)
- Act as the in-house owner of Wage & Hour compliance, including meal/rest breaks, overtime, scheduling, timekeeping, pay practices, and classification.
- Conduct proactive audits to identify gaps and implement preventive controls across regions.
- Partner with Operations and HRBPs to correct inconsistencies and prevent future violations.
- Lead updates to wage & hour processes, communication, and training programs.
- Stay ahead of legislation changes and ensure timely updates to policies and practices.
Policies, Programs & Compliance
- Own the creation, revision, and rollout of HR policies, procedures, and the employee handbook.
- Maintain compliance programs covering discrimination/harassment, background checks, classification, and workplace safety.
- Build and deliver training to reinforce compliance expectations across the business.
- Draft compliance reports and documentation for leaders, audits, and regulatory needs.
- Monitor new laws and ensure swift and accurate implementation across all jurisdictions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; HR certifications (SHRM-CP/SCP, PHR/SPHR) preferred.
- 7–10+ years of HR compliance experience, including multi-state; Wage & Hour expertise is a must.
- Demonstrated success leading investigations and advising on complex ER matters.
- Strong understanding of federal, state, and local employment laws.
- Highly proactive, solutions-oriented professional who anticipates issues and implements preventive controls.
- Excellent communicator who can influence leaders at all levels.
- Meticulous, highly analytical, organized, and comfortable managing competing priorities.
- Proven ability to work independently while meeting deadlines.
- HRIS proficiency; multi-location or retail experience a plus.
